Ban on cattle trade unconstitutional: Karat

PNS

CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat today came down heavily upon the BJP ruled government for its retrogressive policies against the farmers of Jharkhand in its 3-year of governance.

Karat while addressing a press conference at CPI (M) state office said, “The prohibitory law on the sale of useless, unproductive cattle of farmers in the name of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act is completely unconstitutional.”

Referring to the recent violent clashes between the police and the farmers of Madhya Pradesh, she said “The injustices that the farmers are subjected to can be dealt with peaceful delegation and there’s no need to involve guns and arms to solve this. Our party will support the justifiable claims and struggles of the farmers.”

Being specific about the issues of farmers she taunted the ruling government by saying that, “The use of Rapid Action Force directed at the poor is unnecessary, if only BJP could take rapid action on solving the problems, the situation of farmers would have been better. The BJP-RSS coalition is making policies that are against the interest of the farmers.”

Applauding Kerela CM Pinarayi Vijayan she also welcomed the resolution passed by Kerala Assembly against Centre's cattle sale ban.

Karat also addressed the rising cases of communal violence, “Communal violence has increased since BJP has come into power.” Hinting at the BJP as well as the RSS she said that there are certain conservative factions trying to instigate violence amidst religious communities by spreading rumours.

Karat slammed laxman Gilua, the state BJP president for making provocative statements during his recent public interaction. “The BJP governments at the Centre and the State are not only cheating the people but are tearing apart the social harmony in the nation by playing divisive politics.”

She also targeted the newly elected chief minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath for transgressing the orders of Allahabad High court the by maintaining the reckless ban on the illegal slaughterhouses and meat sellers. “The current government is failing to provide jobs, it is failing to curb unemployment and on top of that it is taking away the existing means of livelihood of the meat-sellers” she added.

State secretary of CPI(M), Gopikant Bakshi and state secretariat member Prakash Viplav was also present at the press conference.
