Coming as a relief, improvement in health of Balamdina Ekka, widow of Param Veer Chakra awardee lance Naik Albert Ekka, was reported on Saturday after she was admitted in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Army Hospital, Namkum with complaints of high blood pressure and rise in blood-sugar level.

Doctors looking after Balamdina said that although her situation has stabilised to some extent, they will keep her under observation for another four to five days before considering whether to release her.

Back at her home in Jari village in Gumla district, Balamdina complained of joint pain on Friday. Gumla Deputy Commissioner Srawan Sai and Tribal Advisory Council member Ratan Tirkey were informed of her health problem, following which Tirkey escorted her to Ranchi for better medical attention.

“Balamdina is still in ICU. Her blood pressure has come down to normal levels but her blood-sugar level is still fluctuating, as she is still taking rice in her meals. Doctors have agreed to let her have rice, they will try to stabilise her blood-sugar with insulin instead,” stated Tirkey.

He further added, “We are not thinking of getting her discharged anytime soon. I have talked to the doctors myself and it seems that she needs to be kept under observation for some more days. Decisions will be taken in future as needed.
