As the industrialists in Adityapur industrial area–one of the largest industrial hubs of Asia, are striving for better infrastructure, and more engineering industries here, the Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA) is geared for its biennial elections. The biennial election of Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA), the oldest and the largest trade body of the State, will take place on May 16.

Candidates will vie for the posts of president, general secretary, vice-president, secretary, trustee and executive members. There are four posts each of vice-presidents and secretary, two posts of trustee and 16 posts have been earmarked for executive members. With a promise to focus on development, the aspiring candidates for the top post in ASIA have started their campaign for ensuring their victory in the ensuing elections of the industries’ body.

Present incumbent of the ASIA president, SN Thakur said that he is not contesting the elections this time due to his other engagement. But he wants to ensure that the new team shall work to develop infrastructure along with the Government. “The new team should work for the development of the industrial atmosphere in this largest industrial estate in the eastern region.  The 600 members of this industrial body will choose right candidate to lead them,” said Thakur.

It may be noted that the sprawling Adityapur Industrial Area houses 1200 units- including 11 large-scale, 64 small scale and 166 tiny industries. A few important industries that has global presence are Usha Martin Group, RSB Group, Tata Steel Growth Shop(TGS) etc., too situated in this industrial belt, situated in Seraikela-Kharsawan. There are 20 industries, which export its products to the USA, Australia and other European countries.

“ No big engineering unit is also coming to the Adityapur either due to lack of proper infrastructure like airport close to the industrial estate.  In such condition, the responsibility of the new incumbent will immensely greater,” observed Singh. He also said that power and roads are some of the important issues concerning the industrial area. At a time when most of the units are facing the slump steps need to be taken to improve the overall situation in the Singhbhum districts.

The expansion of the industries in the Adityapur industrial area has got hit severely with nearly Rs 700 crore investments getting hampered so far, in the last fiscal year. The Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority (AIADA), the principle body overseeing the land acquisition exercise has failed to deliver as far as acquiring land for the industries is concerned.
