In a shocking incident, an assistant sub-inspector of police slit his throat partially while trying to commit suicide at his residence at Telco colony under the same police station area late Monday night. The police official, Gero Kant Murmu (42) who was ill is now struggling for his life at the Tata Main Hospital for his injuries.

Murmu was  a patient of  high blood pressure and sugar.  Despite posted at Telco thana and having his residence near the police station, was not regular and used to remain absent from duty due to his illness.

As Murmu fell sick and admitted at the Tata Motors Hospital, his wife, Agran Soren came to Jamshedpur from her parent’s house in Godda.  He returned home on Monday evening and by 10.30 pm he tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat with a kitchen knife.

After slitting his throat partially, Murmu came out of his residence and went to the near-by Telco police station. The officer-on-duty Darath Munda along with the ASI’s wife Agran Soren rushed the injured officer to the Tata Main Hospital.

“ I was in state of shock to see him. I did not prepare food for the dinner at home as we had brought it from the police station canteen last night. Suddenly I heard a scream from the kitchen.  As I ran toward the kitchen, found my husband coming out of it. He asked me to take care of the children,”  she narrated.

The ASI’s wife said that she was very nervous as her husband was running here and there in pain and finally went over to the police station in bleeding condition. Murmu who hails from Pakur district had joined the Telco police station two years ago.

His wife would visit his house at Pakur where his three children, Ritu Murmu (18), Nishi (15) and son Ankit (12) read in the schools there.

Officer-in-charge, Telco police station, Jayant Tirkey said the condition of the ASI is serious but stable.” The doctors at the Tata Main Hospital have said that the patient will be alright once he takes complete rest. We will take a statement from the police officer, but only after he overcomes from the slit injury,” said Tirkey
