The National Secretary of All India Congress Committee and party’s Mahagama MLA Dipika Pandey Singh on Wednesday met the family members of deceased sub-inspector of Jharkhand Police Rupa Tirkey who allegedly committed suicide.

Pandey stayed for an hour with the family members and assured her support to the family in seeking justice.

Pandey visited the family a day after Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered a judicial inquiry into the suspicious death of the lady cop by the retired chief justice of Jharkhand High court Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta.

The one member inquiry commission has been asked to submit a report in the next six months. The commission will look into circumstances forcing her to end her life or it was the case of abetment of suicide or something else. It became a became a high profile political case as the opposition has charged the lady cop was forced to commit suicide by a man Pankaj Mishra who claims closeness with the government.

The visit of Pandey is important as she is among the vocal leaders of the ruling alliance who communicated to the chief minister that any delay in the action will dent the image of the government and the accused must be brought to book. She had met the chief minister on Tuesday where she had raised this issue with him.

Pandey said that family members of Rupa apprehended that the case will be hushed-up since no quick and concrete action was taken in this matter.

“Family members were not satisfied with the police investigation and they were very unhappy with the Jharkhand police association. Members of the police association demand for CBI and CID investigation even of the petty cases. But the association did not bother to ensure fair investigation of this case. After all, Rupa was a bright officer of the department,” she said.

She added that she had met the chief minister and raised the issue who has assured that justice will prevail. She alleged the BJP is trying to politicise the issue whereas the chief minister has a very clear conscience that whosoever guilty in this case will not be spared. She said that the UPA government in Jharkhand is committed to the protection of life, liberty and dignity of women.
