A case has been filed against seven candidates for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of Municipal Corporation Chas election which is scheduled to be held on May 26, said Manoj Kumar DC Bokaro.

Candidates who are in poll fray are on their rigorous effort to woo the voters; rallies, road shows, meetings with door-to-door campaign are intensified in Chas municipal areas.

“lure of money in lieu of votes is on rise in rural areas of Chas. Candidates are rampantly using ‘Money power’ to lure the voters,” DC said, adding to take strict action. “Our surveillance teams are keeping eye on all activities”, he added.

“We are ready to conduct elections in safe and peaceful environment. Unprecedented security personnel are deployed to conduct peaceful poll,” DC said. Two FST, five SST, one VST, two VVT and two accounting teams are deployed to conduct corruption free poll, he said.

At least 42 candidates, including 40 male and two women are in poll fray for Mayor Post while 255 (144 male and 111 female) candidates for Ward Councillor posts in Chas Municipal Corporation.

In Phusro Municipal Corporation’s bypoll only one candidate Babita Devi has filed the nomination and was declared elected by the electoral officer after 3 pm on Monday, informed DC adding “her documents was found valid in all aspects”.
