In a major crackdown, Giridih district administration seized more than 150 vehicles –trucks, tractors, 10 bikes, one car and 6 JCB machines –that were carrying illegally mined sand on Wednesday. The administration is also demolishing a temporary but strong bridge illegally conducted by the mafia for crossing other states.
According to reports, around 2 am on Wednesday, officials of districts administration alongwith DC, Giridih Uma Shankar Singh, SP Surendra Kumar Jha, Megha Bhardwaj, ASP Deepak Kumar, accompanied by over 50 police forces surprised the mafia at Bagodih ghat in Saria ,where illegal sand miming was taking place. An illegal bridge — about 100 meters in length was also found constructed on a shallow part of Barakar River to facilitate the transportation of illegally mined sand. It was made up of iron pipes clay and wooden logs.
The strength of the bridge could be gauged from the fact that heavy trucks were playing on it, sources said
The mafia was using the NH-2 and others national highway to transport overloaded trucks from here to other destination like Bihar, UP, Gujarat, Delhi and other places.
According to police sources 150 vehicles, majority of them being overloaded trucks, were sized and police also arrested more than two dozen sand mafias during the operation ,which was continuing till early morning .
However Giridih DC, Uma Shankar Singh said the interrogation among the coal mafias who have been arrested is on and nobody would be spared and those who have broken the process of league could be taken legal action.
