A major crackdown on illegal country liquor was carried out in Jarhi village of DandaI block on Friday. Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Sanjay Kumar, along with DandaI police station in-charge Animesh Shantikary, led a comprehensive search and raid operation in the area.

During the raid, two active illegal liquor distilleries, resembling small-scale factories, were found in operation. Both were dismantled on the spot with assistance from local police personnel. Additionally, the team discovered raw materials, liquor-making equipment, and a gallon of prepared liquor stored in the basement of a house. All of it was destroyed on-site.

The SDO instructed the Excise Department and local police to take consistent and stringent action, as frequent complaints have been received regarding illegal liquor production and sale in Jarhi. He noted that substance abuse is a persistent challenge to maintaining law and order.

He also issued a warning to local elected representatives (Mukhiya) and village watchmen (Chowkidars), stating that if organized liquor manufacturing units are found in any village under their jurisdiction, they too would be held accountable. He emphasized their duty to report such criminal activities to the police and administration.

Sanjay Kumar further stated that the village will remain under surveillance from a law enforcement perspective. He acknowledged reports of unrestricted illegal liquor sales every Sunday during the local market, which often leads to unrest in the area. If confirmed during future inspections, direct accountability will be placed on relevant excise officials and police officers.

The SDO urged residents of the subdivision to promptly report any information about organized illegal liquor operations to the Excise Inspector. Complaints can also be submitted to the circle, block, or sub-divisional offices. He assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
