The East Singhbhum district administration is busy chalking out plans to meet the drinking water crisis in city owing to rising temperature.  The administration has decided to renovate defunct water pumps in the fringe areas along with distribution of water through tankers.

The district administration apprehends that due to the scanty rainfall last year, more tube wells could dry up as the groundwater recedes further. The ground water level in the city is also decreasing due to high rise buildings.

However to ensure water supply in the affected area, the public health and engineering department has been asked to start supply through water tanker.

The drinking water and sanitation department (DW&SD) executive engineers and JNAC officials were asked to repair defunct tube-wells in their respective command areas within a deadline of ten days.

The corporate houses led by Jusco, Tata Motors, Tata Power, lafarge, and Company and public sector enterprise Uranium Corporation of India limited (UCIl) have also agreed to lend help water in city fringes.

ADC Ganesh Kumar said with temperature soaring high the situation may get tough owing to water scarcity. They have asked the corporate houses and public sector enterprises to lend a helping hand in controlling the situation.

The drinking water crisis in areas like Jugsalai ,Mango, Birsanagar,  Govindpur, Rahargora, Jojobera, Namda Basti, Manifit, Jemco, Ghorabandha , Parsudih, Sundernagar, and several other areas located in the periphery of the steel city was discussed during the meeting.

Meanwhile, Tata Steel wholly owned subsidiary Jusco which looks after civic amenities in Tata Steel areas has given four tankers in two distribution vans to the district administration for water distribution in parched areas.

According to the information, the water problem is more severe in the areas located at the tail-end of water supply system and on the city outskirts. In order to end the water woes of the resident the district administration has decided to distribute water through tankers in the areas of Baghbera, Jugsalai, Pursudih and Karandih, which are the worst affected areas.

Zilla Parishad member, Rajkumar Singh has embarked on distributing drinking water in   areas of Haludbani Panchayat.

According to information three tankers have been  pressed into service for supplying water at Haludbani panchayat under Jamshedpur block. Over 50,000 people covering Sarjamda, Parsudih, Shankarpur, Pradhantola, Vidyasagar  Palli and several other areas under the Panchayat would be benefitted.

"like every yeat this year too I have decided to take steps to meet the water crisis. Tube-wells and  bore-wells have gone dry. Therefore, this year too I have decided to supply water through  tankers to overcome sufferings of the people," said Singh.
