In order to expand the reach of the Covid-19 vaccination drive, the health department has started nine new vaccination centres at different health hubs in and outside the steel city. This makes the total number of vaccination centres to 13 in the East Singhbhum district on Tuesday.

In order to reach out to those in the fringe areas of all  community health centres (CHC), including the one at Jugsalai in the city, the drive has started.

District civil surgeon, RN Jha said that the CHCs where the vaccination against Coronavirus started to be given on Tuesday include at Ghurabandha, Mosabani, Dhalbhumgarh, Dunaria, Patamda, Potka, Baharagora, Chakulia, and Jugsalai.

" The drive has been successful so far. As of now, the Covishield vaccines were given to the health workers at Tata Main Hospital, Tata Motors Hospital, Sadar Hospital in Parsudih and MGM Medical College.  But from Tuesday we have started giving the vaccine at nine more places, mostly in the rural areas of the district," said Jha.He said the health department has provided training to the medical staff as to how to administer the Covid vaccine to the recipients and for this the department had organised a dry-run in January. "The drive has been successful so far. Like in the four major vaccination centres in the city -- Tata Main Hospital, Tata Motors Hospital, Sadar Hospital and MGM Medical College, we have set a target to give 100 health workers in each of the CHCs four days a week.   A team of senior medical officers from the district civil surgeon office is monitoring the vaccination drive," said the civil surgeon.

Jha said only one health hub where the vaccination drive could not be started yet is the Birsanagar Urban Health Centre in Birsanagar.

"We have given a message of confidence about the Covishield vaccine and none of my medical fraternity has any suspicion or fear about it," said an official.

The official said that they are taking feedback from those who are being immunised. “We will further spread the number of centres. This is a good beginning for us. A long wait finally comes to end with the vaccination programme. We are taking cooperation from doctors and health workers, who have worked hard for the past 10 months for the success of the current vaccination programme,” he said.
