Hazaribagh police today arrested a 63 years old senior citizen Md. Khurshid from Chistiya mohallah and sent him to Hazaribagh central jail for allegedly trying to sexually harass a 10 year old girl child, who resides near his house.
It all happened due to the intervention of child line. On Monday Md. Khurshid was alone in his house when the minor went there taking water from his well which is inside the house. The family members used to take water from his well for their daily use. Md. Khurshid caught the girl and started harassing her sexually. Somehow the girl escaped and returned home.
The girl narrated the whole incident to her parents, who in anger came out of their house and started searching the culprit who had left his house by that time. The news spread in entire mohallah and in the evening a meeting of denizens of that mohallah was organised. In that meeting attempts were going on to suppress the voice of the minor girl. In the meantime a woman, perhaps present in the meeting, rang to child line and informed about the incident.
The phone was attended by child line Kolkata office, from where information came to child line Hazaribagh. The members of local child line immediately rushed to the spot and thus foiled the attempt of local people to suppress the matter. The members then talked with the parents of the girl who finally agreed to lodge an FIR against the accused.
On Tuesday morning FIR was lodged in local sadar police station and the accused was arrested. He was booked under POSCO act and was sent to jail. The members of child line then handed over the girl to her parents and assured them that they will remain in their touch always. Since the court is closed due to vacation, the statement of the girl will be registered after the court opens, under section 164.
