The long-awaited project of initiating the first State-of-the-art abattoir designed on Italian model here in capital city has seen the light of day. After roping in a competent agency from New Delhi for its operation and maintenance (O&M), Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is all set to open five model meat shops catering to the requirements of public.
“The model meat shops are being established at Kanta Toli, Booti More, Morhabadi, Madhukam market and Kanke road following all environmental safety norms,” said, RMC Engineer, Binay Bhagat. With the establishment of model meat shops, the municipal corporation will conduct a rigorous drive for ensuring complete ban on open slaughtering and closure of poultry shops functioning within the municipal jurisdiction infringing all safety guidelines.
Bhagat, who has been given the responsibility for keeping a check on proper functioning of this model slaughter house located in Arasandey, Kanke situated  somewhere 15 km away from the district headquarter further added that over 1000 goats will be slaughtered here on per day basis.
“The capacity will be increased once the abattoir becomes fully operational considering the demand. Proper arrangements of two AC vans for carrying poultry products at distance places have been ensured. At a fix rate, the vans will deliver the poultry products at the shops in shifts in a stimulated time,” added Bhagat.
The model meat shops will be fully air-conditioned having a proper concrete structure for penetration of waste products, lighting arrangements and other mechanized facilities.
The poultry products will be released from the model meat shops only after going through a proper quality control check.
Meanwhile, Bhagat clarified that all these model meat shops will be maintained by individual entity for which tender has been floated to rope in a competent bidder.
“We are giving model meat shops maintenance and operation to other parties/agencies. The Delhi based firm will just have the responsibility of managing the business of abattoir as it involves tedious technical process,” Bhagat further added.
However, the status of packaging of meat products to be done at abattoir under different subheads is yet to be clarified by the civic body authorities and has been kept under wraps.
Denoting the slaughtered animals meat with proper health marks as a symbol of transparency has been made mandatory under the Municipal license (For sale of flesh, fish or poultry) Regulation, 2017. Identification mark as G for goat flesh, M for Mutton, B for Buffalo, P for Pig, PO for Poultry and F for fish as per the new by-laws is mandatory.
