A 35-year-old man was arrested by the police, on Sunday night, for allegedly raping a minor girl under Pathardih police station at Jharia block of Dhanbad. He was sent behind the bar on Monday, police said.
The accused, identified as Rajan Manjhi, presently residing in a rented house at Chas Nala Basti, had allegedly lured his neighbour’s daughter (7 years) into a nearby vacant room after offering her chocolate and raped on June 22, said police.
“She has been allegedly raped after being lured with chocolate. The case is under investigation. The victim and the accused are neighbours and they were known to each other,” said RK Ram, inspector of local police station.
The parents of the minor girl are daily wage earners. They lodged a complaint in this regard on June 23 at Pathardih police station and later, the accused was arrested and forwarded to court, he said.
“Rajan has raped my daughter after luring her with chocolate at around 3.30 PM when we were at work,” victim’s mother told reporters. “Now, my daughter is admitted at PMCH, Dhanbad, where her condition is said to be critical,” she added.
