A 25-year-old woman from Hindpiri tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, adding up to the count of young Jharkhandis getting infected by the virus, health officials said. Monday's test results take the total count of coronavirus cases in Jharkhand to 161, and 78 of them are in the age bracket of 11 to 30 years, they added.
"One suspect tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. She is a resident of Hindpiri in Ranchi," said Health Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni. Three Covid-19 cases were reported from Giridih on Sunday late night. All of them are under the age of 35 years – another indication that more young people were getting infected here irrespective of the district.
Most of the cases reported in Ranchi –the only Covid-19 red zone in Jharkhand – are from Hindpiri. The locality is the only large containment zone in State, and the first coronavirus case of Jharkhand was reported from this locality on March 31.
There are 33 Covid-19 containment zones in Jharkhand and 15 of them fall within the periphery of Ranchi, Kulakarni said. The remaining 18 containment zones are spread across the nine districts that fall in the category of orange zones here, he added.
The nine districts in Jharkhand that fall in orange zone of Covid-19 will become green zones if no new cases are reported in the next fortnight, officials said. At present, Ranchi is the only red zone in Jharkhand and there are 14 green zones – districts that have not reported any cases of Covid-19 virus, he added.
According to National Health Mission (NHM), at least 78 of the 160 patients here –nearly 50 per cent– have recovered from the viral infection and discharged from hospital. Interestingly, most of them did not show any of the Covid-19 symptoms during their treatment, said doctors from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.
While 78 of the 160 cases reported in Jharkhand by Monday evening are in the age bracket of 11 to 30 years, 49 are in the age bracket of 31 to 50 years, the NHM report said.
At least nine children, below the age of 10 years, have been infected by the virus in Jharkhand so far, the report added.
