From a unique model of affordable mini-air cooler to smart helmet for safeguarding the lives of riders and an innovation that can generate electricity from sewage gas, students of various government schools showcased their models covering a numerous scientific domains on the premises of Zila School, Ranchi on Sunday.
As many as 208 scientific models selected at school level science exhibitions organized across the state were displayed at state-level competition of Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (Inspire Award – Manak).
'The top 21 models having unique components have been selected to compete at the national level competition, to be held in mid February.
Young scientists from the government schools between the age group of 10 to 15 years participated in the competition and shared their ideas.
“My model, ‘Sensor Street Light’, is inspired from the hi-tech system adopted in a few developed countries.
The model works on light and sound technology and can be helpful in smart surveillance system,” said Shubham Kumar from Government High School, Dhanbad. Similarly, another aspiring scientist, Aayush Kumar Thakur from Sahibganj who came up with the concept of electricity generation from sewage gas said that the model has been designed based on Bernoulli’s theory. “The model can prove to be immensely beneficial in reducing power consumption as this technique can be used for street lights and other electrical devices,” he said. In a bid to create a critical human resource pool which will ultimately expand the base of the research and development (R&D), more than 10 students of various government schools of the state have got the opportunity to travel aboard and get first hand inputs about the latest scientific developments, since the commencement of the Inspire awards.
Additional secretary, department of school education and literacy, Shailesh Kumar Chaulasia acknowledged the efforts of the budding scientists and assured all possible support to the students who will represent Jharkhand in the upcoming Inspire national level competition.
Regional deputy director of education, South Chotanagpur Division cum State Nodal Officer (Inspire Award) – Ashok Kumar Sharma said, “With every passing year, the competition is gaining tremendous response of the participants. Till last year, the entries did not exceed 150 but this is for the first time 208 creative models were displayed in the state level competition.”
Sharma informed that the national competition will be organised in February at IIT- Delhi, where top 60 models among the hundreds of entries from across the country will be selected and patented.
A state level committee will be constituted soon to compile the details of all selected candidates who have been selected for national level competition till date.
Sharma informed that the committee will have government officials, academicians and a few personnel from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing of different companies to further nurture the scientific temperament of talented children, who often have to face several stumbling blocks despite having adequate knowledge.
