City to host Safety Mela on January 16
Jamshedpur:The Safe (Safety Awareness for Everyone) Club is gearing up to organise the first Safety Mela in the city. With more than 4,000 students from more than 70 schools in the city, the Safety Mela aims to inculcate the importance of safety. The mela will be held at Keenan Stadium on January 16. The fair will be inaugurated by Jeffery A Forgang, vice-president (safety), Tata Steel. The fair, however, will have displays and activities on safety at home; rail safety, domestic safety, self-defence and disaster management and safety evacuation which will be explained through stalls.
"SAFE believes, in order to influence behaviour, it is essential to engage the children at an emotional level on the consequences of an accident- its impact on their own lives and the lives of people around them. Although we have been doing activities for quite sometime now, this is the first time we are going to organise mela," said Ruchi Narendran, chairperson.
DC convenes meet on R-Day celebrations
Jamshedpur: A meeting of the district-level officials of civil and police administration and representatives of various institutions, was held at the conference hall of the Collectorate under the chairmanship of DC, East Singhbum Amitabh Kaushal in view of the preparations for forthcoming Republic Day celebrations. During the meeting it was decided that district-level main function will be held at Gopal Maidan, Bishtupur and the flag hoisting will take place at 9:05 am. Various committees were constituted comprising officials of civil and police administration to review the preparedness as far as rehearsal, tableau demonstration and logistics at the venue of the main function are concerned. JUSCO management was entrusted with the tasks of carrying out sanitation works and arranging water tanker, tent and chairs at the venue. Platoons of RAF, JAP-6, District Police, Homeguard and NCC will hold a parade, whereas Tata Motors, Red Cross, Civil Defence, Tata Steel and District Education Dept will hold a tableau demonstration.
