One para-teacher allegedly associated with CPI-Maoists and a hardcore Naxal was today arrested from Mankidih under Tamar during an operation launched by Ranchi police to nab notorious Zonal Commander of the dreaded organization Kundan Pahan and his squad.

The arrested members of the outfit are Bablu Munda and Mansingh Munda and both are resident of Jorgo Tola under Arki PS in Khunti. While Bablu is an active member of the squad Mansingh is a para-teacher. Bablu was arrested in 2011 and was in jail for involvement in naxal activities.

On a tip off about a possible visit of Kundan Pahan and his squad to Mankidih Ranchi police draw an operational plan ‘Jay’ under the leadership of Rural SP SK Jha. The operation was carried out jointly by Bundu police and jawans of 133-F Company of CRPF.

“When our team reached the spot extremists started running away. Some were in uniform. Our team had encircled the area and they managed in arresting two people from the spot,” said SSP Ranchi Prabhat Kumar.

Police suspect that Pahan is on a drive to strengthen the organization and reconstitute the Krantikari Kishan Committee, an organization associated with CPI-Maoists, to strike during Assembly elections.

The SSP informed media that the arrested naxals accepted that they were in the meeting that was called by Pahan and that the Zonal Commander had come to the area alongwith his squad. The para-teacher has also confessed to have worked for the outfit and make arrangements of food and shelter for the members of the organization. The para-teacher also acted as mediator between extremists and businessman.

“Mansingh has been associated with the squad from a very long time and helped the squad in their activities,” added Kumar.

Police recovered one country made rifle, live cartridges, two motorcycles, receipts of KCC and naxal booklets in the raid.
