two-day cbi remand for RK AGRAWAl
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday took RK Agrawal on a two day remand for interrogation. Agrawal is accused in the cash-for-vote scam during the Rajya Sabha Elections-2012. The Jamshedpur based businessman was an independent candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections- 2012 from Jharkhand. He was arrested from Ranchi on Tuesday and was sent on14-day judicial custody by a Special CBI court of RK Chaudhary. Agrawal is one of the main accused in the cash-for-votes scam. The election was countermanded by the Election Commission after `2.15 crore had been seized from Namkom.
youth commits suicide under ‘pressure’
Another youth Varoon Ghelani ended his life by hanging himself at his peace road residence late night on Tuesday. Ghelani 25, pusuing his MBA course was under intense pressure as he did not a get preferred placement from anywhere from the placement cell of his college. Ghelani, also and Engineering graduate, had left his job at Infosis and had been pursuing Management program from a Pune based institute.
MECON employees’ union election held
The election of MECON Employees Union (Services Unit) was held on 14.5.2013 at TA&CD office Shyamali for the term 2013-15. Pravir Nayak has been elected as Vice President. Kausar Ali has been elected uncontested in the post of Secretary. Usha Rani was elected as joint treasurer. The other seven executive committee members elected are Dhano Tirkey, Akshaya Kumar Tigga, Rajendra Kumar, Zakarias Tigga, Vinod Kumar, Shiva lohra and Md. M. Ansari.
FJCCI CHIEF DISCUSSES TAX ISSUES
FJCCI president Ranjit Tibrewal met Commercial Taxes Secretary MR Meena to discuss on issues related to commercial taxes on Wednesday. Tibrewal requested to exempt the luxury taxes levied on dharamshalas. Tiberwal also demanded reduction on taxes from 14 to 5% and insisted on online availability of form F. Chamber advocated removal of assessment process and requested for introducing one time settlement scheme so the department gets taxes due.
