Deputy Commissioner of Simdega, Vipra Bhal, directed an investigation on death of two persons who were installing an electricity pole in Jaldega block of the district.

On Sunday, two labourers lost their lives while three other were injured by coming in contact with an 11,000 volt electricity wire, while installing an electricity pole in Turup Dega village of Jaldega block.

The deceased were identified as Sanjay Bage and Radhe Badaik Ram. The three injured labourers, Govind mahato, Nitesh Kumar and Van Gandhi, were rushed to Simdega Sadar Hospital.

Eyewitnesses informed that the five labourers were erecting a pole below an 11,000 volt wire. As soon as the pole was erected, it came in contact with the wire leading to the labourers getting an electric shock.

According to the rules, the power in the area has to be shut down when any work related to electricity is ongoing but the contractor did not shut down the power.

Taking the issue seriously, the DC directed the civil surgeon to provide proper treatment to the injured.

She said, "Such negligence will not be tolerated. Sub divisional officer has been given a direction to investigate the matter. Strict action will be taken by the district administration against the officer, contractor or company, whoever is found to be responsible for the incident in the investigation."

The DC also ensured immediate compensation to the families of the deceased. The letter, issued by the DC, directs the SDO to submit an investigation report within 24 hours.
