After facing months of sexual harassment, a teenage girl led by a delegation of Mahila Majdoor Union lodged a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police Amol V Homkar against police coldness in arresting the accused despite more than a week of lodging an FIR at the local police station.

The Mahila Majdoor Union decided to take up their case and brought the matter with SSP East Singhbhum on Wednesday.

“We demanded arresting of the two accused for kidnapping and rape of the girl,” said Kamar Sultana, president of Mahila Majdoor Union.

“We were living without father Gurba Purti, a habitual drunkard after the death of our mother seven years back”, said the 14-year-old girl, a resident of Oraon Basti, under Sitaramdera police station who was staying with her three sister.

In 2012, a local youth Shiba Sandil befriended their elder sister and asked them to stay with him and assured them to extend all help in future. After few days, Shiba married their elder sister. After she became pregnant, their brother-in-law Shiba started molesting the younger sister.

The youths brought her to a house in Bagbera and kept her for a month  in a locked room and raped her several times. Her brother-in-law assured to marry her and also threatened that if she shouts and resists then they would kill her sister and her children. However, one day she heard the youths discussing in a drunken state of selling her in Punjab. At this she somehow managed to get out of the house and with the help of neighbour managed to phone her sister and inform about the locations where she had been kept.

Her sister came along with some of the neighbours and managed to rescue her from Bagbera and then lodged a complaint at Sitaramdera police station on May 21 against the youth. But finding no action being taken against the youth who continued to threaten the sister then approached a women outfit Mahila Majdoor Union earlier this week.

City SP Karthik S said that directive has been issued to the Sitaramdera police station for prompt action. Sitaramdera police station officer-in-charge, Sunil Choudhary said that they have completed investigation in the case and both the accused will be arrested soon.
