The ADG (JAP), on the other hand, suspended 14 jawans to their involvement in the illegal trade of liquor.

“Taking swift action after the raids conducted in the JAP quarters, we have suspended 14 constables while at least 3 more persons have also been identified having their involvement in the illicit liquor trade,’ said the DIG. Two Inspectors Raju Pradhan and Pramod Chetri, however, have been issued show cause notices giving them a time of three days as they were not found have direct involvement in it, he added.

Jha said that if their reply was not found to be satisfactory, action will be taken against them as they also have the responsibility to check illegal activities in the armed police.

“The ADG has given clear instructions to deal strictly with the culprits and also to take measures so that such things do not get repeated again in future among the armed Police,” said the DIG. Meanwhile, the investigations were still on and action will be taken in this regard if more people are found to be involved in such activities,” he added.

Incidentally, during a search drive conducted in the quarters of JAP Jawans living in Nepal House area under Doranda police station, several bottles of illegal liquor were recovered confirming the speculation rife that they were playing an active role in the illicit liquor trade.

Meanwhile, following instructions from the ADG, illegal makeshift shops, being run by jawans in Nepal House premises, were bulldozed on Friday to check such activities in future.

Raids against spurious liquor, however, continued on Friday also during which a person named Chanda Ghasi was arrested by the Excise and Prohibition Department while two other persons – Tribhuwan Sahu and Manoj Beck, succeeded in escaping before the raids were conducted on their home-cum-shops.

Ranchi Police has also launched an intensive campaign to break the supply chain of illegal trade of liquor during which several persons have also been arrested. SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi has appealed people to give information to the police if they find anyone involved in the trade.
