The tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped by five to seven youths aged between 25 and 30 years near Ghasipur area under Muffasil police station here on Tuesday evening in Dumka. Superintendent of police Ambar Lakra said the woman was returning home with her husband from the local village market.
The SP said one main culprit has been detained. The incident occurred in the Mufassil police station area late Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm.
Police said on Wednesday the 35-year old tribal woman was returning home with her husband from the weekly market, was taken hostage by the misdemeanours, who carried out the rape incident at Ghasipur area.
Police sources said that a tribal woman, mother of five children, reached near Ghasipur, when they were intercepted by six youths on an abandoned stretch of road around 6:30pm.
According to the information, a traditional weekly fair and tribal community Ras Raas Mela was also held at some distance from the village. While she was returning with her husband from the local Haat, in a secluded area at some distance from the house, the miscreants raped the victim after keeping her husband hostage.
Sources said that the accused made the woman a victim of lust from seven in the evening to around 12 in the night. Then everyone left and escaped.
Somehow the woman reached home with her husband on Wednesday and the matter was discussed with other villagers. While in the recorded statement, the victim said that she identified a young man who raped her.
DIG Sudarshan Mandal, SP Ambar Lakra, SDPO Vijay Kumar, Mufassil police station in-Charge Naval Kishore Singh were involved in the investigation in the case.
After interrogation, the victim was sent to Medical, College Hospital, Dumka for medical examination.
The victim's husband said that 6 or 7 youths have raped his wife. The first four to five youths held the victim's husband hostage while returning from the market.
Confirming the case, DIG Sudarshan Mandal said that the victim is being accused of gang rape.
The police are investigating all the points on the victim's statement. Only after medical examination will the rape or gang rape is detected.
The police have taken the matter seriously and started investigating and arresting the accused.
