Commemorating World Health Day marking on October 10, a Guest Talk Session titled ‘Be Kind to your Mind’ was held by Department of Psychology, Amity Institute of Psychology & Allied Sciences (AIPAS) on Friday wherein Dr. Siddhartha Sinha, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist at RINPAS (Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry & Allied Sciences) was the key speaker.

Dr. Sinha, besides being an eminent Psychiatrist, is also quite active in spreading mental health awareness. He has given his heart and soul to the profession and provides free counselling and medication to students as well as the underprivileged denizens. He has also been organizing several CME’s, one of them being with ace director Mahesh Bhatt.

The objective of the event was to sensitize the students about the importance of one of the most stigmatised taboos of society, the need for acceptance of taking care of one’s mind. It would help students understand that mental health issues are not to be put into the closet or be ashamed of, but to accept, talk about, and get treated as simply as physical health issues.

Dr. Siddhartha Sinha began to address how students aged between 15 to 28 years can be counselled for not endorsing drug intake. Jharkhand is booming with heroines. He felt the need of giving time to mind functioning as the Central Processing Unit of the body. “I phone 13 is launched but we are still living in the IOS era. Despite Ranchi being one of the pioneering cities for mental health institutes like RINPAS and Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), people are still hesitant to opt for mental health therapy,” quoted the Senior Consultant Psychiatrist at RINPAS.

Sinha, in his address also cited the example of popular Bollywood flick ‘Udta Punjab’ where cases of drug abuse are high. He said that Jharkhand should not become like ‘Udta Punjab’, but the people here should be more vocal and have courage to disclose their psychiatric problems.

Dr. Raman Kumar Jha, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Jharkhand said present birth is to be neutralized for mind and heart. He further highlighted the relevance of spirituality, yoga and meditation.

According to Prof. (Dr.) Ajit Kumar Pandey, Director, Amity University Jharkhand, the brain is one the involuntary organs which can be controlled. We need to understand what our mind needs.

Prabhakar Tripathi, Registrar, Amity University Jharkhand focused on the turbulent situation of the mind.

Shrija Swapnil, a student from AIPAS, Amity University of Jharkhand recited a self-composed poem on mental health signifying the compassionate value of mind.
