‘Presence of many leopards no consolation for not finding tiger around PTR'

M FAIYAZ AHMAD

The new field director and chief conservator of forest tiger reserve Palamu Kumar Ashutosh  has been given the reins of this tiger reserve weeks ahead of the international tiger day when this Palamu tiger reserve is marked all empty for tigers.

There are many leopards  now in this tiger reserve and does this console the tiger reserve officials for not having any tiger here, to which he said we know leopards are in numbers here now and invisibility of tiger is most visibly talked about but we will go all out to see the big cats do not give a miss here.

Asked how to dilute or minimise man elephant conflict here to which he said pay the compensations for damages and destructions without any delay as it is delay in payment of compensation that leads to aggression among the victims of damages and destructions caused by the wild life.

Reminded that it is more than six years now and not a single household of either Latu village or Kujrum village situated right in the tiger reserve has been relocated to which he said our officers are on the job. There are 210 households in total on the relocating board.

"We can't force the households to march out from the tiger reserve. They are to move on their own will and consent." said the field director.

On the issue of displacement and rehabilitation of villages nearly more than half a dozen in numbers in the event of installation of 4 gates in the Mandal Dam Kumar Ashutosh said very frankly that he would find out what the user agency the irrigation department in this case has done.
