A youth of Ramnagar, Gudhiyari area, tried to burn his wife after pouring petrol over her Tuesday morning. She has been admitted to Ambedkar Hospital in a critical condition. Police have arrested the accused.
According to police, marriage of Ramnagar resident Rakesh Sahu had been solemnised last year with lalli Sahu of Dhamdha, Durg district. Just after the marriage Rakesh used to harass his wife in the name of not bringing adequate dowry.
On Tuesday morning too the husband and wife had a brawl on the same issue after which Rakesh poured petrol over lalli and set her ablaze. Being caught in fire, lalli started screaming in her house and after hearing her cries for help neighbours gathered at the site and put out the blaze but by that time she had suffered serious burns.
Neighbours informed the police and also called the Sanjivani Express Ambulance service which rushed the victim to Ambedkar Hospital in a critical condition.
According to In-charge of Ramnagar Police Chowki Jha lalli’s condition is critical and police have arrested Rakesh Sahu for trying to burn his wife after pouring petrol over her. He has been charged under various sections of IPC and anti dowry laws, Jha added.
