Doctors at the Advance Cardiac Institute (ACI) of Chhattisgarh gave a new lease of life to a 29-year-old Raigarh resident injured in a road accident.

He was in a critical condition due to leakage of chyle (a milky bodily fluid consisting of lymph and emulsified fats) from the right lung due to the injury and damage in the spinal cord.

Dr. Krishnakant Sahu, Head of the Department of Heart, Chest and Vascular Surgery, said it was difficult to track the exact place of injury.

To identify it, the patient was administered 100 grams of ghee and 10 ml of methylene blue one hour before the operation.

Due to leakage, the patient's lungs had become cement-like hard. The patient recovered 12 days after the operation. But as he has spinal cord injury, he will be sent to the neurosurgery department for further treatment, Sahu said.

The operation was conducted free of cost.

A painter by profession, the youth, after the accident, was taken to a private hospital in Raigarh. Later, he was shifted to the Raigarh Medical College and finally to the Medical College at Raipur.
