'Women SHGs to manage mid-day meal'

Staff Reporter

Collector R Prasanna said that responsibility of mid-day meal operation would be given to women self help groups (SHGs) from next month. The Collector stated this at a meeting of mid-day meal district-level operation-cum-observation committee here.

He said the distribution of Mid-day meal and maintaining its quality would be made easy with the women SHGs. To save foodgrains from being kept in the open, the Collector also advised officials concerned to make arrangements for proper vessels for storage, so that it would be saved from moisture.

While reviewing the Mid-day meal programme at district office here, the Collector instructed the committee members to inspect the programme at least once in a month. Prasanna instructed Janpad Panchayat CEOs to ensure timely payment to the Mid-day meal operators and review the programme at times by visiting the places.

Good works should be encouraged and on getting complaints, action should be taken against the guilty after conducting investigation, said Prasanna and instructed to complete construction of kitchen shed immediately. The Collector also asked CEOs to review programme by conducting meetings of the observation committee at Janpad level on a regular basis. Presence of village panchayat secretary at the meeting should be ensured. On the complaints against Mid-day meal, the Observation Committee, after getting report from the Village Panchayat, should submit it with recommendation to the district collector.

Children’s health should be checked time to time. Quality food should be served in the mid-day meal by keeping the menu as far as possible. Assistant Commissioner, Tribal Development Dr lalit Shukla, members of the Committee and officers of the departments concerned were present at the meeting.
