Woman claims cops refused to register dowry complaint

Staff Reporter

Even after a month of doing the rounds of police station, police have not registered a woman’s dowry harassment case against her husband and in-laws.

The woman is a resident of Bilaspur where her husband works in a Government department. The woman claims her husband and in-laws harassed her for dowry, beat her and threw her out of the home but despite repeated requests, the Mahila Thana has not registered her complaint.

The woman has met officials in women commission, Police Commissioner OP Pal besides other officers but in vain. Pal on Thursday had assured her action but when she went to his office the next, she was asked to give an application.

Mahila Thana had also called her husband for a counselling session twice but he had failed to appear. The woman said not only did the police refuse to file her complaint, but they also abused and shooed her away.

When contacted in-charge of Mahila Thana Manjulata Rathore, said the woman’s complaint has been received. “We first try to settle the case by providing counselling to both the parties,” she said. She said proper action will be taken against her complaint.
