Staff Reporter

Health Minister TS Singhdeo on Wednesday announced that  a high-powered committee will probe the fire incident at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) here which resulted in death of two infants so far while leaving four others critical.

“The Probe Committee to be formed will also look into inadequacies, and  if necessary, if changes are required, a decision would be taken . Time has now come to review the overall operation of the hospital which if not found upto prescribed standards can also be shut down or shortcomings can be rectified,” he said.

It is also time to contemplate whether we should have CIMS operating in the present status, he said while talking to reporters here.

“Those affected by the incident would be provided free-of-cost treatment. The three employees injured during rescue operation would be felicitated on Republic Day for their efforts,” Singhdeo said .

“As per doctors, prima facie it looks like the case of smoke as reason for death. The Bilaspur Superintendent of Police confirmed of conducting post-mortem and report is awaited”, he said.

CIMS is an autonomous body and everyone has the responsibility as the electrical system should not be inside the rooms but outside, Singhdeo  said.
