Former Chief Minister and BJP national vice president Raman Singh on Tuesday defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comment about former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Singh in a tweet on Tuesday said “When Congress president could apologize for telling a lie against Modiji, then why not we bring to fore the truth that Rajiv Gandhi was indulged in corruption in Bofors defence deal”.
Responding to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s strong reaction against Modi’s jibe, Singh without naming him said “the entire opposition becomes jittery when Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of corruption of Bofors defence deal”.
“It was during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi when we have seen high level of corruption prevailing in the country and only 15 paise reached the beneficiaries when Rs 1 was allocated to them. If Congress looks at it as an achievement then this is their perspective, but the BJP as per its ideology will never accept this corruption”, Singh added.
Modi at an election rally in Uttar Pradesh had said Rajiv Gandhi’s life had ended as “Bhrashtachari (corrupt) number one".
