Weather to remain chilly but no rains: IMD

Staff Reporter

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared cold wave conditions in North Chhattisgarh with the minimum temperature in South Chhattisgarh region fluctuating.

“There is a high possibility of temperature going below four degrees celsius in some parts of North Chhattisgarh during the next five days. However, South Chhattisgarh region may not be under grip of a similar cold wave.

But, both the regions would remain dry as there are no chances of rain,” said Ml Sahu, Director, IMD,Raipur.

Notably, certain change in weather is due to the northerly winds passing across the State. Comparing the present weather with last year, Sahu said it was almost similar.

He further added that as of now the minimum temperature recorded in the State is at Pendra Road with 5 degrees celsius.

Even Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGAU) Agrometeorology Department Head Dr GK Das confirmed about the mercury dip. He said, “There is no possibility of rain now.”

Early this month, Das had made the prediction of fall in temperature from December 25 onwards.

The one week report released by IMD Raipur on December 22 clearly indicates the removal of cloud cover from December 25.

Meanwhile, Rabi Crops are the most to benefit from this changing weather. “Farmers should follow crop rotation if there is recurring infestation of wilt and collar rot disease in gram crop. Recommended varieties and certified seeds should be used.

Sowing should be done after seed treatment,” mentions the report.

Also it suggests spraying on Pomegranate, Phalsa, Aonla and Ber fruit to protect from insect or pest.

Cattle (milch and non milch) must be fed mineral mixture at 25-30 gram per day.
