Water crisis has again hit the state, rather a bit harder than previous years. At the onset of summer itself this year, the ground water level has registered sharp dip of up to 18 meters.
As per the data availed by Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Bilaspur is the worst hit, which has recorded average 18 meters fall in the ground water level. The northern districts of the state particularly Surguja and Jashpur stand next in the tally with water level dipping up to 17 meters in the beginning of the summer season.
KC Nayak, Director CGWB talking with The Pioneer, said, Bilaspur has registered 18 meters drop in its average water level of ground water for this period of year. The condition is not better in other major cities of the state as well, he added. Raipur city has also witnessed 15 meters plunge while ground water in Durg have gone 16 meters down than what it earlier used to be in this season. Nayak further said that it has become of prime importance that people are made more and more aware about use and conservation of water.
Nayak further said that this year the overall dip in ground water is about 5 percent more as compared to last year. He warned that if people do not stop wastage of water then days are not far when they will have to face a difficult time.
