Two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Maoists were unearthed by security personnel in insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, police said.

The IEDs recovered by a team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from the restive region under Bhejji police station were weighing around 30 kg and 20 kg, respectively, said Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Santosh Singh. A team of CRPF engaged in anti-Naxal operation spotted IEDs planted by insurgents on Injram-Bhejji route, said Singh, adding that the IEDs were planted by rebels for causing injury to security personnel engaged in intense operations ongoing in the region.

With the help of experts from Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), the IEDs packed in containers were unearthed and destroyed at the spot to avert any untoward incident, added Singh.
