Two police jawans were injured after a pressure bomb went off in a forested patch falling under Avapalli police station of the insurgency-hit Bijapur district on Friday, informed Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal.

According to the SP, a road opening party consisting of jawans from the CRPF and district police were near village Dubaiguda in Avapalli, detecting bombs and other explosives for ensuring safe passage for the polling parties, the SP said.

Suddenly a pressure bomb planted by the Naxals exploded, injuring the two jawans, Brijesh Singh and Mansoor Ahmad, of the CRPF, the SP told The Pioneer, over phone. The injured personnel were rushed to district hospital Bijapur from where they were brought to Jagdalpur. However, seeing their critical condition they were airlifted to Raipur for better medical service.

Amid tight security arrangements, voting for the lok Sabha election was conducted in Bastar on Thursday. Defying the Naxal threat, over 52 percent votes were cast in the worst insurgency-hit region.
