The trilingual teaching formula in schools in the State must include Chhattisgarhi language instead of Sanskrit, demanded Padma Shri awardee Surendra Dubey, who is also the secretary of Chhattisgarh Rajbhasha Commission.

He was talking to media persons during a Press conference here on Tuesday regarding a two-day regional meet. It will be organised by the commission on February 24 and 25 at Ravindra Cultural Hall at Kalibadi. The meet will focus on teaching in Chhattisgarhi at least till Class V in State schools and making it the language of administrative work.

“Now, one can study Chhattisgarhi in their post-graduation from Pt Ravishankar Shukl University and Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication but the base that should form in early years of a person’s life is absent,” said Dubey, adding that it is must that Chhattisgarhi was used not only in offices and schools but also in one’s behaviour.

Despite distributing Hindi to Chhattisgarhi and English to Chhattisgarhi dictionaries in all the Government offices in the State at the time of formation of Chhattisgarh, the local dialect has not attained a respectful status in the State, said members of the commission who were present at the press meet. The dictionaries provide translation of administrative terms to Chhattisgarhi. The dictionary also includes usage of words and grammar framework of Chhattisgarhi language.

The regional meet to be conducted on February 24 and 25 will be the second such meet. The previous one was held in 2013 in Bhilai. Apart from several cabinet ministers like Ajay Chandrakar, Brijmohan Agrawal and Rajesh Munat, Chief Minister Raman Singh is also expected to attend the two-day meet, said Sharma. Folk artists, poets, novelists from districts like Durg, Balod, Mungeli, Bilaspur, Kawardha will also take part in the meet.
