Take care of planted saplings: Minister

Staff Reporter

It is the responsibility of parents to help children protect the hundreds of saplings they have planted in Chhattisgarh, Forest Minister Mohammaed Akbar said on Saturday.

This way, the parents will end up cooperating with the Forest Department to save the environment, Akbar said.

He was addressing a tree plantation programme at the Chhattisgarh Police Training Academy at Chandrakhuri where 4,796 saplings were planted in an event organized by the Chhattisgarh Sikh Samaj.

Akbar himself planted a peepal tree, an official communication said.

The Minister said the state has 1.35 lakh square km area and 44.2 percent of it is covered by forests. This is why there is environmental balance in Chhattisgarh.
