A Political Committee set up to recommend prohibition in Chhattisgarh on Monday decided to send study teams to states enforcing prohibition and also those which went back on a pledge to ban liquor.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of senior MLA Satyanarayan Sharma at GST Bhawan in Nava Raipur.  It was decided to study the socio-economic condition, law and order, revenue loss, threat of illegal trafficking of liquor and impact on the health of addicted persons in states enforcing prohibition like Bihar, Gujarat, Nagaland, Mizoram and Lakshadweep. It said the teams will also study why Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Manipur and Tamil Nadu did not enforce prohibition after promising to do so.  The committee, asserting that liquor addiction was a social evil, underlined the need to conduct an awareness campaign against it. It was suggested that akin to Swachch Bharat Mission, District, Janpad and Village Panchayats will be awarded if they achieve total prohibition.
