Chhattisgarh’s Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Serjius Minj inaugurated the day-long State-level workshop for PWD officers titled ‘Right to Information Act 2005’ on Thursday at the New Circuit House here.

In his address at the workshop, Minj said that RTI is extremely important for maintaining transparency in government work. He said that the tasks performed by any of the departments of government are meant for public. ‘Hence, people have the right to know about these works. It is the legal responsibility of the government officials to strictly comply with the provisions of RTI in their respective offices.’ Information sought by citizens should be timely provided as per the rules and regulations, he said.

Minj said that RTI is in effect since year 2005. It has been nearly a decade since this Act was implemented. Hence, the officials and employees of all the government offices are expected to have sufficient knowledge about this Act. But still officials are often found confused about certain points of the information sought.

This workshop will prove extremely beneficial for the officials in dealing with such situations. Minj appreciated PWD for organising the workshop. Meanwhile, Chief Engineer of PWD Vijay Kumar Bhapahri and RB Manglorkar, Superintendence Engineer AK Chakravarty, Chief Technical Examiner DK Sehgal and other senior officials of the department.
