A five-year old girl was attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Changorabhata area of the city on Thursday morning.
The dogs inflicted serious injuries on the girl’s eye and head and has been admitted to the Trauma unit of Dr Ambedkar Memorial Hospital.
The incident reopened a debate on the long standing problem of the city as the issue was also raised in the general body meeting of Raipur Municipal Corporation here today.
The victim Nandini (5) daughter of Raju Yadu, a resident of Changorabhata Gitti Khadan, was playing in front of her house at about 8 am when a group of stray dogs attacked her. The dogs bit the child on her face and head before help arrived.
She was rushed to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital where the family members had to allegedly move from ward to ward for few hours for her treatment. The victim was initially sent to the OPD from where she was sent to Paediatric ward, Neurosurgery ward, Ophthalmology department, it was learnt.
The harried and disappointed family members decided to take her back home when she was finally admitted to Trauma unit of the hospital. However, the family had to arrange anti-rabies injection and other medicines from the market. Hospital authorities claimed that she was taken to different wards for examination and testing. Her condition is stable, claimed the doctors.
Stray dog menace has plagued Raipur for years and the problem persists despite intensive drive taken out by RMC to move stray dogs out of Raipur city’s limits.
According to RMC Health Department In-charge Dr Shiv Sharma the Corporation has been working on the problem for long and at an average 40-45 dogs are caught from different localities and left out of the city per day.
The dogs which are left out of the city often return back and hence the problem could not be resolved permanently.
