It is the responsibility of the state government to ensure drinking water to each citizen. But the Modi government took the initiative by setting targets for 2024 across the country, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Prahlad Singh Patel said on Thursday.
He said similarly, the housing scheme is being implemented across the country with targets.
It is a success of the Central government that state officials have confirmed there was no interference. Even then the responsibility of implementation of the Central schemes lies on the shoulders of the state government, he said.
If the target is not achieved, the onus lies on the state government, said Patel.
