The Congress party on Tuesday slammed the ruling BJP Government in Chhattisgarh for what it termed its failure to check the Naxal problem, which, it stated claimed lives of at least 400 people during the last 11 years of its regime in the State.
A number of Congress workers led by the party’s City Wing President Vikas Upadhyay staged a demonstration near Congress Bhawan as a medium to register their protest against the incident. The protesting people also demanded resignation from Chief Minister Raman Singh.
“It’s a failure of the BJP Government that over 400 people lost their lives in eight massive Naxal-attacks reported on May 25, 2013 in Darbha, on June 29, 2010 in Dhodai, on May 17, 2010 in Dantewada, on April 6, 2010 in Tadmetala, on July 12, 2009 in Madanwada, on July 9, 2007 in Uarapaltola, on March 15, 2007 in Rani Bodli and on December 1, 2014 in Sukma district” said Upadhyay.
He said that previous UPA Government sanctioned whatever funds demanded by the State Government to deal with the Naxal problem.Meanwhile, CGPCC Chief Bhupesh Baghel and ClP leader, TS Singhdeo raised questions on Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement of dealing with Naxal problem in collaboration with the State Government.
“The Central Government had, two days ago, refused the State Government’s demand of Rs2400 crore fund to deal with Naxal problem. How come they now claimed to work as a team to eradicate Naxal from Chhattisgarh’s soil” they asked in a joint press release issued here. Both Baghel and Singhdeo demanded clarification from the Chief Minister on recurrence of such Naxal attacks, fixing accountability of the senior officials concerned and failure of the intelligence services in averting such incidents.
CGPCC spokesperson, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi criticised the Home Minister’s move of cancelling his much-publicised Sukma visit following the Naxal-attack.“Following the incident, the State Government had publicised Rajnath Singh’s programme to Sukma district but took a u-turn at the last moment. The move will demoralise the local residents and Jawans carrying out combing operation in Sukma district” Trivedi alleged.
