State Cong delegation to meet CEC today

Staff Reporter

A State-level Congress party delegation led by Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) President Bhupesh Baghel and leader of Opposition, T.S. Singhdeo would be meeting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in New Delhi on Friday to plead for rejection of Rajya Sabha nomination of BJP candidate Saroj Pandey from Chhattisgarh.

Party leaders have raised objection that the proposers of BJP nominee in all the four sets of nominations are working as Parliamentary Secretaries of the state and their membership of the State Assembly is in question and they should not be entertained.

The delegation would present its argument that as the membership of some Delhi legislators was rejected by him, so in Chhattisgarh too, the proposers of the BJP nominees are Parliamentary Secretaries and are enjoying the office of profit.

Hence here too they must not be treated as a legislators and the nomination of the BJP nominee for the Rajya Sabha seat in the state should be rejected.

The Congress leaders would present documents before the ECI that as the proposers of BJP nominee in all the four sets Rupkumari Chaudhari, Ambesh Jangde, Shivshankar Paikra, Suniti Rathia, Satyanand Rathia, lakhan Dewangan, Raju Singh Kshatri, Tokhan Sahu, and Gowardhan Singh Manjhi are enjoying the office of profit.

Thus they should not be entertained as legislators as it was done in the case of Delhi assembly, they would demand.

Notably, the other day, the Chief Election Officer, Chhattisgarh had cleared the nomination papers of both the candidates, Saroj Pandey from BJP and lekhram Sahu from Congress.

He had also dismissed the plea of Sahu for rejection of BJP nominee’s candidature.
