Collector P.S. Dhruv in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district on Sunday took the initiative to admit a rag picker child to school after spotting him during an inspection.

Municipal Corporation officials will accompany the boy, Prince, and get him admitted in the government school in Podi Bazar, an  official communication said.

Dhruv was at Chirmiri town on Saturday when he saw the eight-year-old boy collecting garbage near Podi Bazar. He encouraged the boy to go to school instead of picking rag.

The Collector asked the Corporation Commissioner to provide him all necessary materials including school uniform and books and get him admitted in the school.

Prince is the son of Raja Panika, who has been living in Chirmiri for four years.

The officials have been asked to monitor the boy to ensure that he goes to school regularly.

The district administration has started a scheme, Bal-Jatan Abhiyan, to help underprivileged children by providing them education. The first phase will be              conducted in urban areas followed by rural areas.
