Stadium turns into paddy storage ground

Staff Reporter

Because of the negligent attitude of PWD officials, the Khekrahata sports stadium constructed with a cost of Rs53 lakh has turned into a paddy storage ground. According to sources, the proposal for the construction of the stadium was passed in the year 2004 and it took almost two years to complete the construction.

In 2006, the fully equipped massive stadium, with arrangements like changing rooms, 10 toilets etc was completed. But the sports department refused to arrange any sports events in the stadium because of some technical flaws.

Moreover, the stadium was located in the outer area of the town so players hardly came there for practice. Whenever the PWD department was asked to correct the technical flaw, the department ignored it.

Meanwhile, MARKFED took full advantage of the tussle between the two departments and started storing paddy in the stadium. It has been years since the stadium is being used to store paddy.

Now the condition is that the stadium walls are in the verge of collapse and half the door installed has been stolen. Even the toilet seats have been stolen.

The sports department now organises games in the one and only play ground located near the High School in the middle of the town.
