In order to keep children healthy and efficient Chhattisgarh Government  formulated many schemes. To assess the actual status of malnutrition in children of age upto 5 years and to eradicate the same, State Government has decided to observe ‘Vazan Tyohar’ in Chhattisgarh from March 1 to March 6.

During this week, weights of nearly 22 lakh children aged five years and below would be recorded through more than 50,000 Aanganbadi and mini-Aanganbadi centres in State. This data would be entered in online software to analyse the status of malnutrition in children and to diagnose the children suffering from disabilities caused due to malnutrition.

It is worth mentioning that the continuous efforts of State Government since last 10 years have reduced the level of malnutrition in State from 53 per cent to nearly 47 per cent. Now, under Millennium Development Goals, collective efforts are being made to reduce this level of malnutrition to nearly 27 per cent.

Officials of Women and Child Welfare Department informed that a detailed action plan has been chalked out to organise 'vazan tyohar' across the State. Dedicated efforts are being made to decrease the level of malnutrition in State to 27 per cent and to achieve the target given under Millenium Development Goal. Integrated Child Development Service Programme, Mukhyamantri Bal Sandarbh Yojana, Nava Jatan programme and establishment of nutrition rehabilitation centres are some of the major steps taken by the department concerned in the direction of malnutrition eradication.

Vazan Tyohar has been an important medium of estimating and analysing the actual status of malnutrition in state. In the same sequence, phase-II of Vazan Tyohar for year 2013-14 will be organised from March 1 to March 6. Department is widely publicising the 'Vazan Tyohar' event through banners, posters, pamphlets, invitation cards, etc, so as to ensure maximum participation.
