A single window system will soon be opened at State Transport Authority, Chandigarh. To facilitate the transporters, the STA would introduce a single window system at its premises for the payment of passenger and goods tax.
At present, the transporters have to face a lot of inconvenience for the deposit of passenger tax and goods tax. While the STA office is located in Sector-18 here and the Taxation Office is operational in Sector-17.And, with the introduction of single window system, the disposal of work of the transporters will get promptness and their work will not be delayed. The new system will be operative from August 15 onwards.
Also, for the convenience of commercial/transport vehicles owners in the union territory of Chandigarh, the STA has decided to issue the certificate of fitness on every working day instead of Tuesday and Thursday.A spokesperson of the STA said that the certificates would be issued at the ground opposite Fire Brigade office, Manimajra, by the Board of Inspection of STA.
The vehicles should reach the venue by 9 am for the inspection. These orders will be effective with effect from August 4.
last year, the UT Administration had allowed the STA to register and collect taxes from commercial vehicle operators. The decision was taken to reduce the burden on Registering and licensing Authority (RlA) which was registering the commercial vehicles besides other vehicles here. At present, the city has more than 25000 commercial vehicles registered. And overall, vehicles exceeding 9 lakh are registered with RlA.
