Shun violence, contest polls, Diggy tells Maoists

SR

All India Congress Committee General Secretary and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh on Tuesday said that the party’s fight against Maoist insurgency would continue and we would not let the martyrdom of late Mahendra Karma go in vain.

He appealed Maoists to fight election after abandoning violence asking if Maoists can fight elections in Nepal, then why not in ChhattisgarhIJ

Notably, Digvijay Singh reached Faraspal, the native village of Karma located in Dantewada district Tuesday morning along with party leaders and paid tribute to Mahendra Karma who was killed in Maoist attack on the Congress convoy at Jeeram Valley on May 25 while returning from Sukma.

He said Karma led his life courageously and died also with valour. Had he not surrendered, most of the people in Congress convoy could have been killed, he added.

Now we would take this fight forward on our own as we don’t have any expectation from the State Government. We would get the incident probed on our own and also pin point the lapses on the part of the State Government.

He charged that BJP is an offshoot of exploiters. State Government is simply exploiting people here resulting in Chhattisgarh becoming a safe zone for Maoists who after fleeing from Andhra Pradesh taking refuge here and the State Government providing them safe shelter, he charged. He said our fight is ideological. We will fight for betterment and development of Bastar, he added.

Consoling the family members of the late leader, Digvijay Singh said that in this time of crisis entire party is with Karma family.

After paying tribute to the departed leader, Digvijay Singh said that Congress Party’s fight against Maoists would continue and the Parivartan Yatra, which was abruptly postponed after the Darbha massacre, would start from Jeeram Valley itself where it was attacked by the Maoist insurgents and in that rally he himself would

participate.

On the issue of security to Karma family, Digvijay Singh said Central government is committed to provide security to family members of the late leader while on security to party workers he said he would discuss the issue with acting president Charandas Mahant.

Along with Digvijay Singh, newly appointed State Congress acting president Charnadas Mahant, leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey, and Digvijay Singh’s brother laxman Singh had also reached Dantewada

by helicopter.
