Traffic department on Friday carried out a drive against people who cover their faces with scarves while driving in the city. After issuing warning for two days, the traffic police will start imposing challan on such vehicle owners.
“We have given warnings to 2,361 vehicle owners on the first day of our drive. We will continue to warn the citizens for one more day and begin to impose penalty from Sunday,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Balram Hirwani.
Many-a-times, criminals cover their faces, mix with the crowd and escape the police. If people want to protect themselves from dust, they must opt for helmets, he said.
Traffic department deployed a team of five members at 14 spots in the city. Each team consisted two traffic constables, two lady constables and one senior officer.
From Sunday, we will start imposing fines on people who cover their face with scarves while driving, said Harwani. This will help police to identify miscreants who escape from under police’s nose.
Several two-wheeler riders in the city, especially girls and women, wrap up their face and head apparently to avoid dust, smoke and sun.
