Staff Reporter

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ajay Chandrakar on Tuesday informed the Chhattisgarh Assembly that there is a shortage of a total of 1,047 doctors in the Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the State.

There is a shortage of 1336 nurses, 207 laboratory technicians and 202 pharmacists in the  CHCs and PHCs, he informed in a written reply to Congress member Amit Jogi. Chandrakar said that there are 155 CHCs and 790 PHCs operational in the State.

The State had been making efforts from time-to-time and on a continuous basis to fill up the posts. Previously the posts of doctors were filled by Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission but now the same is done by the General Administration Department as the rules for recruitment had been simplified, he said.

This apart, in Bastar and Surguja divisions, the Collectors have been authorised to make the appointment of doctors on contract basis while posts of doctors and nurses had been filled in the two divisions through outsourcing of recruitments, the Minister said.
