SR

Its good news for the city’s residents facing water scarcity as the State Government has sanctioned a project worth around Rs 100 crore to bridge the water supply–demand gap.

The Government has also released a sum of Rs 44 crore as first installment to initiate the ambitious water supply project.

The Central Government will sanction 80 per cent amount of the project while the State Government and local civic body will make available 10 per cent funding each.

Under this mega project, water will be drawn from Ravishankar Sagar Project (RSP Dam), constructed on Mahanadi River, for the Bhilai-Charoda water supply project.

The civic body officials believed that the project was the only permanent solution of water crises due to the primary reason of depleting underground water.

In a bid to ease the work, the project has been divided into nine parts. The civic body has also invited tenders for assigning different tasks to the private companies.
